Create a Sequence

A sequence is a series of emails sent to contacts over a period of time.

Create a new sequence by going to Mail Campaigns > New Campaign.

Select Email Sequence, and click the Continue button.

Campaign

Enter a name in the Name this Sequence field. The name will be used to identify the sequence internally, and will not be shown to contacts.

You should already have at least one mail delivery profile set up. Select the mail delivery profile from which you want the Sequence email sent.

Check the boxes for the days on which you want the email sequence to be sent out, then click the Continue button.

Recipients

A sequence can be sent to contacts within a segment or contacts with (or without) a certain tag.

Segment

If you haven’t created any segments, you’ll be prompted to create one. You can either add a new segment or an advanced segment.

Once you have at least one segment, choose the segment to which you want to send the Sequence from the dropdown list.

If you want to preview the contacts to which the Sequence will be sent, click the Preview Audience button. Otherwise, click the Continue button to move on.

Tag

Click the Use Tags box.

You can either send the Sequence to all contacts with a specific tag. For example, this will send to all contacts with the vip tag:

Or, you can send the Sequence to all contacts without a specific tag. For example, this will send to all contacts without the vip tag:

If you want to preview the contacts to which the Sequence will be sent, click the Preview Audience button. Otherwise, click the Continue button to move on.

Mail Steps

All the emails in the sequence are shown on the left, in the Steps section. You can add as many emails as you’d like into the sequence.

Click on any email in the sequence to edit it. Select a template for the email on the right, and click the Write Email button.

You’ll see a default email with some placeholders, which will vary depending on which template you chose.

Enter a subject in the Subject field. This will appear as the subject line in the email sent to contacts.

Whatever you type into the body of the email is what will be sent to your contacts.

Note: We recommend including the ##UNSUB-LINE## placeholder in all Sequence emails, as it is required by many local laws. This is what allows contacts to unsubscribe from mail campaigns.

Click the Save & Complete button to save the email within the sequence.

After you’ve created and saved the emails within the sequence, you can drag and drop them to rearrange the order in which they are sent out.

Emails will be sent out one day apart, based on the days you selected when creating the sequence.

To space emails out more than that, click the Add Delay button to add a delay step between two emails in the sequence. Click on the delay step to adjust the number of days in the delay. Then click the Save & Complete button.

Delivery

The Sequence Summary section gives you an overview of the sequence and how many contacts it will be sent to.

Click the Start Sequence button to start sending the sequence to the contacts you’ve specified. The sequence will also automatically be sent to new contacts who match the sequence criteria.
