A sequence is a series of emails sent to contacts over a period of time. Follow these steps to create one:
- Log into the site’s WP Admin dashboard.
- From the main WordPress menu, go to Mail Campaigns > New Campaign.
- Select the “Email Sequence” option, and click the “Continue” button.
Alternatively, you can start creating a new sequence from Dashboard > Mail Campaigns > Sequences and then by clicking the New sequence
blue button.
Campaign Screen
You should now be on the Campaign Screen, the first of four screens in the sequence creation process. Follow these steps to set up your campaign:
- Enter a sequence name in the “Name this Sequence” field. The name will be used to identify the sequence internally, and will not be shown to contacts.
- In the “Send Email From” section, select the mail delivery profile from which you want the sequence emails sent. If you have not already created at least one mail delivery method, please follow this guide to do that, and come back to finish creating your sequence.
- In the “Send on Days” section, check (tick) the boxes for the days on which you want the sequence emails to be sent out.
- Click the “Continue” button.
Recipients Screen
A sequence can be sent to contacts within a segment or contacts with (or without) a specific tag.
Send to a Segment
If you haven’t created any segments, you’ll be prompted to create one. You can either add a new segment or an advanced segment.
Once you have at least one segment on the site, follow these steps:
- Choose the desired segment from the “Choose a Segment to send this email to” dropdown list.
- Optional: Preview the contacts to which the sequence will be sent by clicking the “Preview Audience” button.
- Click the “Continue” button.
Send Based on Tags
First, ensure you have created the tag(s) and assigned the tag(s) to the desired contacts. You can follow this guide to do that. Then, follow these steps:
- Click the “Use Tags” box to select that option (instead of the default “Send to a Segment” option).
- You should see two dropdown lists in the “Send based on Tags” section. In the first dropdown list on the left:
- Select the “Has Tag” option to send the sequence to all contacts with a specific tag; or
- Select the “Does not have Tag” option to send the sequence to all contacts without a specific tag
- In the second dropdown list on the right, select the tag.
- Optional: Preview the contacts to which the sequence will be sent by clicking the “Preview Audience” button.
- Click the “Continue” button.
Mail Steps Screen
The “Steps” section on the left shows all of the emails in the sequence.
Jetpack CRM automatically creates the first “Welcome” email in the sequence for you. Follow these steps to edit that email:
- Select an email template in the “Select a Starting Template” section on the right.
- Scroll down and click the “Write Email” button.
- Change the subject line’s default “Welcome” text to whatever you’d like.
- Add whatever text and placeholders into the body (main section) of the email as you’d like.
- Optional: Click the “Preview” button at the top of the email to preview it.
Note: We recommend including the ##UNSUB-LINE##
placeholder in all Sequence emails, as many local laws require it. This is what allows contacts to unsubscribe from mail campaigns.
Add Emails to the Sequence
Follow these steps to add additional emails to the sequence:
- In the “Steps” section on the left, click the “Add Mail” button.
- You should now see a new email, or step, in the sequence. Click on the new email in the “Steps” section on the left.
- Select an email template in the “Select a Starting Template” section on the right.
- Scroll down and click the “Write Email” button.
- Edit the subject line to whatever you’d like.
- Add whatever text and placeholders into the email’s body (main section) as you’d like.
- Optional: Click the “Preview” button at the top of the email to preview it.
- Repeat steps 1-7 to add as many emails to the sequence as possible.
Add Delays Between Emails in the Sequence
By default, Jetpack CRM will automatically send all emails in a sequence, one after another.
You can space out the emails to be sent out in your desired timeframe. For example, you might want to send one email per day or one email every five days.
Follow these steps to add delays to your sequence:
- In the “Steps” section on the left, click the “Add Delay” button.
- You should now see a new delay, or step, in the email sequence. Click on the new delay in the “Steps” section on the left.
- With the new delay selected, you should see a “Specify a Delay between steps” section on the right, with a default 5-day delay. Where it says, “Wait 5 days,” replace the number 5 with your desired number.
- In the “Steps” section on the left, move your mouse cursor over the three horizontal lines next to the delay you just created. Click your mouse on the three horizontal lines, and drag the delay to wherever you want it to appear within the sequence.
- Repeat steps 1-4 to add as many delays to your sequence as possible.
For example, if you want the second email to be sent one day after the first email, you would create a 1-day delay and move the delay between the first and second emails in the sequence.

Finish Up Your Sequence
Follow these steps to make the final touches to your sequence:
Adjust the order of emails and delays in the sequence
- In the “Steps” section on the left, click on the three horizontal lines of any email or delay.
- Drag and drop the email or delay into a different location within the sequence.
Delete emails or delays in the sequence
- In the “Steps” section on the left, click on the email or delay you want to delete.
- In the main section on the right, click the “Delete Step” button at the top of the email or delay.
When you’re done creating and adjusting all of the emails and delays in the sequence, click the “Save & Complete” button at the top of the main section on the right.
Delivery Screen
The “Sequence Summary” section gives you an overview of the sequence. It tells you:
- The Campaign Name
- A summary of how many emails will be sent over how many days
- The mail delivery method (sender) that will be used to send the emails
- The number of contacts the emails will be sent to and which method (segment or tags) is used to determine those contacts
Last-Minute Adjustments
Notice something in the summary that you want to change? You can make final adjustments to the sequence by following these steps:
- You should see the four main steps (Campaign, Recipients, Mail Steps, Delivery) at the top right of the screen. Click on the step you want to make changes to.
- To adjust the “Mail Steps”, click the “Recipients” step at the top right. Then scroll down and click the “Continue” button, which will bring you to the “Mail Steps” screen.
After you’ve made all of your changes and are back on the final “Delivery” screen, scroll down and click the “Start Sequence” button.
The sequence will also automatically be sent to new contacts who match the sequence criteria.
You can access your sequences anytime – and make adjustments before sending them out – also from Dashboard > Mail Campaigns > Sequences.
