CSV Tagger Basics on CSV Importer Pro

Easily tag your imported contacts in Jetpack CRM by using the CSV Tagger Basic feature included in the CSV Importer Pro extension.

The CSV Tagger tool in the CSV Importer Pro extension helps you bulk-tag contacts when importing a CSV file. This is handy when you want to add or update tags for existing records without editing them one by one.

When to use the CSV Tagger

Sometimes you need to add a new tag to a batch of contacts you’ve already imported, or you want to keep your CRM organized when importing new contacts. The CSV Tagger makes this quick and reliable.

This is the most common scenario where our customers find the CSV Tagger especially efficient and easy to use.

How to Use the CSV Tagger

You can follow the four-step wizard to get started with the CSV Importer Tagging facility. There are also example files built into the extension, which you can use as a template.

You can also follow these steps to use the CSV Tagger in CSV Importer Pro:

  1. From your WP Admin dashboard, navigate to Jetpack CRM → Dashboard → Tools → Data Tools → CSV Tagger.
  2. Click Choose File to select your CSV file, or drag and drop the file into the import box.
  3. Click Start CSV Tagger Now.
  4. Configure the tagger settings:
    • Decide if you want to ignore the first line of the CSV file (helpful if your first line contains column headers).
    • Select your Identifier (this tells the tool which column to use to match your existing contacts).
    • Pick the Append option to specify which tag(s) you’d like to add.
    • Use the dropdown menus for both options.
  5. Click Continue when ready to run the tagger.
  6. On the next screen, click Run Tagger to start tagging your contacts.
  7. When the process is complete, click Finish.

Tips for Best Results

  • Make sure your CSV file is formatted correctly and matches the contacts you want to tag.
  • The Identifier field must match an existing CRM field (like email) to ensure contacts are tagged properly.
  • If you need help preparing your CSV file, check our CSV Importing Guide.
  • Make sure to verify your field mapping before starting the import. If contact details such as first names are mistakenly mapped to the tags field, the system will generate a separate tag for every unique entry. Carefully review the column assignments during the “Map Fields” step to avoid this.
